Heather Dietz Chemo

Rantings of a Modern Madwoman.

Several years ago, I started writing everything down, everything about…

  • How much it SUCKS going through infertility

  • How even when I had my kickass crevice (sans boob*) after my emergency surgery, I wanted to laugh and find the humor in it.

  • How I’d never wish a cancer diagnosis on my worst enemy but was able to find the good in my situation.

So, I started writing my story and called it…

“Frankenboob and the Mummified Nipple”

BUT WRITING IT DOWN WASN’T EASY…AT FIRST

It was an interesting experiment—funny, moving, and difficult. However, I found myself unable to continually go back in time to revisit my experience—I wasn’t ready; I needed to put it away for a while.

In the meantime, I had several more surgeries, moved states, healed a lot (emotionally and physically), and had another baby.

Now that I have more time, I feel ready to revisit and share these moments with you. We’ll go back to where it all started with…

  • Several years of infertility

  • Finally deciding to move forward with IUI and then IVF.

  • Having a successful pregnancy and finding a lump when Eli was 9 months old.

  • Through my diagnosis of Triple Negative Breast Cancer and chemo together

  • The 5 surgeries to put Humpty Dumpty back together again

I’ll  also share how my second pregnancy differed and what that looks like post-chemo. Some weird things were going on with this body, ya’ll!

DON’T WORRY; THERE’S A HAPPY ENDING

Ultimately, mine is a happy story, so don’t be afraid to come on this adventure. However (full disclosure here), when I say some weird things happened, I’m talking a LITERAL mummified nipple (not as awful as you might think), emergency surgery due to sepsis, and impressive crevice where my right breast once was, and latissimus flat transfer to help me get a new boob started. Oh, and flipped implants, to name a few.

Heather Deitz is a 45-year-old triple-negative breast cancer survivor, infertility, IVF, and IUI.

For me, all these things were wildly interesting; thankfully, we documented them all. I’ll share photos of all these things, but I’ll give you a fair warning so you can turn away if you need to – I know not everyone is fascinated by the freaky like me!

Talk soon,
